Price New from 5/5(5). Max: Best Friend. Hero. Marine. was a pretty good book, and I probably would have given it more stars if the ending was a little bit more developed. It did kind of leave me a little confused and I think it should have gone on longer, but the movie (since the book is based on a screenplay) probably was- I haven't watched it/5.

Language and mention of rape make this book suitable for young adults or adults. The Friends is a highly emotional voyage into the mind of a teenage girl who immigrated from the West Indies to Harlem.

It gives insight into the thought processes that motivate teenage and adult behavior/5. Equally important, though, are eye-opening moments for Max: his new friend Teresa rejects his assertion that girls don’t like to climb trees and look for “gross bugs”; his friend Stephen. Max is a highly trained military canine who has always protected his fellow soldiers.

But when he loses his handler and best friend, Kyle, Max is traumatized and unable to remain in the service. He is sent home to America, where the only human he connects with is Justin, and he is soon adopted by Kyle's family, essentially saving his life.

I haven't read a book adaptation of a film since elementary school, but decided to make an exception for Max: Best Marine.

I couldn't make it through the trailer with bawling my eyes out, but was still curious about the story, so the novelization seemed like the best possible option.

Max Vandenburg is the Jewish man who hides in the Hubermanns' basement. His father saved Hans's life during World War I, and later Hans tries to save Max's life, which puts the Hubermanns' lives in great jeopardy.
